Nominate for IMPRA Gold
2019.01.15
In 2012, IMPRA instituted an honorary prize which is awarded to the player who during the year has shown in a meritorious way that they want to change and actively work for an equal jazz Sweden. The winner is selected by an independent working group and awarded in front of a large audience during the Jazz Festival.
Winning IMPRA gold primarily means increased marketing and positive attention in the media. The winner is also offered IMPRA's advice and support for further work on gender equality. In addition to this prestigious award and stamp, the appointment can generate a larger or different audience and a more favorable position when, for example, applications for municipal support.
Who can win IMPRA gold?
The prize can be won by a club or festival organizer, person or other, such as an institution, who during the year clearly demonstrated that they are working for change and
works for an equal jazz life in Sweden. It is possible to win the prize several times.

Lisbeth Diers & Gyu Ho
The two musicians and composers are the South Korean Gyu Ho and the Danish Lisbeth Diers, who met for the first time during the international music festival in Joen, Korea 2018.
This new constellation originates from immediate energy and contact - with a particular desire to create music together in a cultural meeting between two musicians with very different musical backgrounds - where Korean traditional music meets jazz and improvisation!
Gyu Ho's Geomungo and vocals meet Lisbeth Dier's percussion and vocals in an interplay never heard before.
--- ❁ --- ♫ --- ❃ ---
Maria Norseth Garli with Gus Loxbo
In her solo project, Maria Norseth Garli creates songs that go on and on. Repetitive, almost like small pop installations, where simplicity and time are the most important tools.
Maria is an experimental songwriter and her background as an improvisational musician and voice artist is evident in the music.
In addition to her solo project, Maria is up to date with the audiovisual concept Mind the Gap together with the writer and artist Marit Bolsø and with the UPOP concert series.

VILLAINS
Skurkar is a young quartet with musicians from all over Scandinavia who are now based in Trondheim. The band plays its own compositions inspired by musicians such as Ornett Coleman, Carla Bley, Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk.
The four musicians focus on spontaneity and improvisation with the aim of challenging and exploring the tradition and form of music. With two saxophones, bass and drums, the quartet creates a dry and open expression. They convey their simple melodies with conviction and honesty.
The music is about being in the present, playing and exploring, listening and reacting and not least making both themselves and the listener forget time and space.
Amalie Dahl (DK) - Alto saxophone
Jenny Frøysa (NO) - Baritone saxophone
Oda Steinkopf (NO) - Double bass
Emma Lönnestål (SE) - Drums

HANNAH TWELVE
Hannah Tolf is a singer and composer who, based in Gothenburg, creates music in
the borderland between jazz, pop and improvisation, in the spirit of Patrick Watson, Nina Simone and Mercedes Sosa.
Hannah plays and shapes the music together with
Jonathan Albrektson: piano/synth (Anna ran Hansen, Water Boogie System)
Anna Lund: drums (Mariam the Believer, Marilyn Mazur)
Donovan von Martens: bass (Malin Wättring 4, Lisen Rylander 4)
"The listener is stimulated by unpredictable contrasts, exquisite oscillations that take on powerful forms"
(about the concert at Nefertiti 2019: Mats Hallberg, Kulturbloggen/OJ)
The music is created in the magical borderland where innovation and imagination meet harmony, text and voice.
Thoughts about community and humanity are embraced by a deep and fragile sound world.
In recent years, the group has played and toured around the Nordics, France, Italy and Germany and will follow up the acclaimed debut album with a new album to be released in 2020 on Havtorn Records.
Hannah Tolf: Voice
Jonathan Albrechtson: Piano/Synthesizer
Anna Lund: Drums
Donovan von Martens: Bass

Award Ceremony IMPRA Gold 2019
2013.06.02
IMPRA's board is pleased to finally be able to present the winner of the IMPRA Gold 2019 honorary award, namely;
The magazine Orkesterjournalen!
The justification reads:
OrkesterJournal - the world's oldest and Sweden's only magazine about jazz, has since its inception in 1933 maintained its status and changed in step with its contemporaries. Above all, during the past five years, the magazine has been actively developed and consciously renewed to become a modern and exciting jazz magazine, where competence and know-how are combined in a joyful mix with a basis in a gender-equal and multicultural context. Every second cover presents an image of a non-man and who is also not always white – an important gender equality factor that OrkesterJournalen deservedly draws attention to. Articles are written with a background in the multifaceted and world-affirming music society we find ourselves in and where the present is reflected with an obvious knowledge of its history and at the same time sensitivity to the future. OrkesterJournalen is characterized by the description of jazz society based on an inclusive perspective, where openness, equality and curiosity are the watchwords! Through its role as informant, reviewer and opinion maker, OrkesterJournalen is an obvious and worthy recipient of the IMPRA GOLD 2018 award
•
Big congratulations to everyone involved in Orkesterjournalen's fantastic work, we hope you continue doing what you do for at least another 86 years!
In 2012, IMPRA instituted an honorary award that is awarded to a club or festival organizer, person or other such as an institution, who during the year have shown that they want to change and actively work for an equal jazz Sweden. The walking prize is a statuette by the artist Hanna Hedman. This year's distribution took place as usual during the Jazz National Day, this time in Ystad.

Björn Petersson Quartet plays music that will evoke sadness, disgust, calm, laughter and hopelessness.
The music is reminiscent of hymns, although the organ has been replaced by a jazz quartet and the lyrics are dark, merciless and self-revealing.
